Bratislava, May 16 (TASR) - Head of the opposition Progressive Slovakia party and House Vice-chair Michal Simecka has praised the call made by President Zuzana Caputova and president-elect Peter Pellegrini for reconciliation in society, describing their joint statement in reaction to the recent attack on Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) as a strong political gesture.
"An assassination attempt on the prime minister is an attack on democracy. What we need most of all now is an end to the spiral of attacks and recriminations. We must each do our part, as politicians and as citizens," noted Simecka.
The PS leader claimed that his party has suspended its European Parliament election campaign in response to the attack on Fico. "We are providing full cooperation to our political partners to calm the situation in Slovakia," he added.
