Brussels, May 15 (TASR-correspondent) - I strongly condemn the "vile attack" on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen posted on Wednesday her response to the assassination attempt in Handlova (Trencin region) on X.

"Such acts of violence have no place in our society and undermine democracy, our most precious common good. My thoughts are with PM Fico and his family," wrote von der Leyen.

President of the European Council Charles Michel wrote on X that he was shocked at the news of the attack on Slovak Prime Minister Fico after the meeting of the Slovak government in Handlova.

"Nothing can ever justify violence or such attacks. My thoughts are with the prime minister and his family," he stated.
