Zilinka said this on Tuesday in response to a proposal tabled by the opposition's SaS party earlier in the day.

Bratislava, May 28 (TASR) - Prosecutor-General Maros Zilinka considers the proposal to form an international commission to investigate the attempt on Prime Minister Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) life inappropriate.

Zilinka said this on Tuesday in response to a proposal tabled by the opposition's SaS party earlier in the day.

Zilinka pointed out that the forming of an international investigation commission has no backing in the Slovak law. "The Slovak Penal Code defines rather clearly the bodies of pre-trial criminal procedures: police investigator who carries out investigation, prosecutor who oversees the legality of pre-trial procedures and pre-trial judge who makes decisions on interventions in some constitutionally-guaranteed rights," claimed Zilinka.

The Prosecutor-General pointed out that the Slovak law enforcement is already prosecuting the case and noted that societal reconciliation would benefit from showing respect for and trust in Slovak bodies.

Earlier in the day, SaS party unveiled its proposal to form an international investigation commission to investigate the attempt on Prime Minister Robert Fico's life. The aim of such a commission would be to prevent or even investigate disinformation and misinterpretations concerning the assault but also to investigate potential miscues committed by the Office for Protection of Constitutional Officials and police.
